What do I need to know about tolls in Norway?

Where required?

In Norway, a toll is charged for driving on certain roads and for some bridges, tunnels and city centres. These are marked by blue signs with the words "automatisk bomstasjon", "automatic toll" or "toll station".

How is payment made?

This depends on where your camper is registered:

Norwegian number plate

If you hired your camper in Norway, your vehicle is already equipped with a toll transponder. This means you do not need to register your vehicle with EPASS24. The transponder is a free extra and allows you to drive in Norway without worrying about electronic toll charges.

All other number plates

The toll is paid via the electronic toll system EPASS24 using the "Toll-by-Plate" method. The number plate is scanned when entering and exiting a toll section and the amount is displayed online. The toll can be paid directly via the registered account online. When creating your account, make sure to select "Rental". This allows you to simply specify the rental period:

If you accidentally did not select "Rental" + period, log out of your EPASS24 account after your trip or delete it completely. This ensures that no subsequent renters accidentally pay via your account, as it is linked to the number plate.

NOTE: If the toll is not paid, the invoice will be sent to roadsurfer and you will then be charged for it, including penalties and fees.

Can I find out my camper's number plate in advance?

Privately collected tolls

In Norway, it can also happen that a fee is charged on remote private roads. Usually, there is only a small toll station or even just a metal box with a form that you need to fill in and place behind the windscreen.
