What do I need to know about tolls in Switzerland?

Where needed?

In Switzerland tolls are charged using a vignette for driving on motorways and expressways. At some passes and tunnels the vehicle is being loaded onto a train and therefore charges arise.

You can check if the car already has a toll vignette here (external link). If not, you can buy it directly from the website once you pick up your roadsurfer.

How to pay?

The toll charges for the roads are paid by the vignette which can be purchased online or at common points of sale like border crossings and gas stations and will be registered to the license plate number of the vehicle. The vignette is only available as an annual vignette.

INFO:
All our vehicles picked up in Switzerland already have a valid vignette. If you rented your campervan from another country and want to go to Switzerland, you need to purchase the sticker yourself.

If you pick up your vehicle at our Geneva-Pays de Gex you willl be picking up on the french side, so the Crit'Air vignette for low emissions in France is included, but you will need a swiss vignette to cross over to Switzerland. Maybe the previous customers were so kind to leave theirs attached on the car, so we recommend waiting until the moment of pick up, before buying a swiss vignette 😊.

NOTE: If the toll is not paid, the bill will be sent to roadsurfer and then charged to you including penalties and fees.

Can I find out the registration number of my camper in advance?
