How to pay tolls in Canada with "Toll Access"?

🛣️ Toll Access in Canada

When booking a camper in Canada, you will see “Toll Access” listed as an optional extra during the booking process. Or you can add "Toll Access" later on via your Customer Account.

What is the Toll Access extra?
  • Tolls are tracked with an installed electronic transponder. All our vehicles are equipped with transponders that track electronic tolling activity.
  • Toll Access allows you to drive on electronic toll roads and express lanes without worrying about additional charges during or after your trip. If you select this extra, all toll costs are covered upfront for the entire rental period - no surprise toll charges or handling fees.
What is not covered by the Toll Access extra?
  • If you travel from one of our Canada stations over the border to the United States, you are responsible for any toll costs in the United States in addition to any associated handling fees.
  • In the unlikely event that you travel on any private roads, tunnels or bridges, you are not covered by the Toll Access extra. If you enter a cash-only toll lane, you are responsible for these costs.
  • The Toll Access extra does not cover cash-only tolls/ toll lanes.
What are electronic tollways?
  • All-electronic toll roads and bridges operate using 100% electronic toll collection (also known as Open Road Tolling).
  • Drivers using all-electronic tollways do not have the option to pay tolls with cash.
  • If the transponder fails to be detected for any reason, high resolution cameras capture the vehicle's license plate (toll-by-plate) and the tolling authority charges the vehicle's registered owner (Roadsurfer). If you selected the Toll Access extra, you are covered for these charges.
How is the Toll Access extra priced?
The cost of Toll Access is calculated based on the number of nights in your booking.
How does Roadsurfer know when I generate a toll?
Toll information from the transponder or toll-by-plate is provided to us from a municipality or toll road authority. The information – based on the date, time, and vehicle – indicates that you were the renter.
What if I don’t select Toll Access extra?

If Toll Access extra is not added to your booking:

  • Any tolls incurred during your rental will be charged after your trip.
  • A handling fee will be added to cover processing costs.

Each of our vehicles has a built-in toll transponder and toll-by-plate function that tracks toll usage along your route. If you decide not to include the Toll Access extra in your booking, we’ll simply bill you for any toll-related charges incurred once your trip is complete.

We recommend adding the Toll Access extra to your booking for a smoother, stress-free travel experience!

How are tolls billed to me if I did not select the Toll Access extra?
  • If you did not add the Toll Access extra to your booking, and you incur tolls during your trip, you will be emailed and invoiced for the toll-related charges, including a handling fee.
  • We do our best to combine all your toll charges into one easy-to-read invoice. Occasionally, you may receive a later or separate invoice if the tolling authorities take extra time to process or send us your toll information.
