Flat or damaged tire - Is there a spare tire?

In case you have a flat tire, please secure the vehicle on the side of the road with the warning triangle. However, there are no warning triangles in North America! Make sure you and all passengers are safe, before taking further action.

Some of our roadsurfer vehicles do have a spare tire underneath or on the trunk, some have a repair kit and others have none of it. If you feel safe to do so, please check by looking underneath the vehicle in the trunk area or in the trunk itself. You find information about the spare wheel and tools in the manual in the glove compartment or passenger door.

Change tire yourself

As stated in the terms and conditions (11. Liability of the Hirer, Insurance), you are not allowed to repair the vehicle yourself. If you nevertheless decide to change the tire on your own, you do so at your own risk. Any damage caused during this process will be your responsibility. In this case, if you feel safe enough and capable to do so, you can change the tire yourself, provided your roadsurfer has a spare tire and the tools, and you do not put yourself in danger doing so.

In any case inform Customer Support via the Contact section about the tire change.

The tools can be found in the trunk area, the passenger entry, the footwell on passenger side, or in any of the compartments or floor compartments in the vehicle. You can check the board manual in the glove compartment or door to find instructions on how to release the spare tire and where to find the tools.

If you only have a spare tire that doesn't allow you to continue your journey, you will need to drive to a workshop to get the tire changed. Please inform the station about the change during your return.

If your spare tire is a normal tire that allows you to continue your journey, please make sure to tighten the wheel nuts after about 50km again and inform the station during your return about the change.

Note: Most tires nowadays have a tire lock. To unlock this special wheel nut you will need the fitting tool which you should find in the tool kit.
