What should you keep in mind when crossing borders?
You need to have the following with you:
- Registration document
- Green Card insurance certificate
- Rental contract showing permission to cross borders
The documents are usually stored in the glove compartment. Check where you find them when picking up the camper, so you don’t experience stress at the border.
Make sure to store the rental contract in your emails, so you can easily find it at the border.
Special case when renting in the United Kingdom:
Vehicles have no physical registration document. Their electronic records are stored in the DVLA (Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency) system. Border authorities can access these records via international data-sharing agreements or by querying the vehicle registration number. If you plan to cross the EU external border/leave Schengen, make sure you know all the requirements this entails.
