The duty of care means that the renter must treat the vehicle with care & attention as well as try to prevent all foreseeable damages (as if it were their own van). For example, the vehicle may only be driven personally by the renter or by the driver specified in the rental agreement, provided that the respective person is in possession of a valid driving license.
Other aspects of the duty of care are:
- The constant monitoring of road safety.
- Monitoring the oil and water levels as well as the antifreeze and tyre pressure.
- The illegal loading of the motor vehicle beyond the legal weight limit.
- Careful locking of the vehicle to protect against theft.
- Ensuring that the driver is fit to drive (not under the influence of alcohol or drugs or overtired).
- The vehicle must not be used for towing other vehicles or for racing and sporting events.
