💧 Fresh water and waste water/ grey water - Van Villa (VW T6.1 Knaus Tourer Van)

Fresh water

For hygienic reasons, the fresh water tank is always handed over empty. The fresh water tank (65L) is located on the driver's side and serves the washbasin, toilet and indoor/outdoor shower. To open the water tank compartment, you need the middle key. Please be careful when opening the door as it does not open smoothly.

Open the blue lid and fill the water directly into the tank:

The fresh water tank can be filled using a canister with an attachment or a hose. Please make sure that the fresh water and waste water tanks are closed. They may still be open from the previous rental.

To empty the fresh water tank, turn the grey lever with the blue sticker to the right.

The red lid may only be opened when the tank contains little or no water. It is used to access the water pump and the tank sensors.

Caution: Fresh water is not drinking water

Waste water

To empty the waste water tank (58L), turn the grey lever with the brown sticker.

You can see the levels of the fresh and waste water tanks in the on-board unit. Press the "Check" button and the lights come on. The first one indicates the fresh water tank and the second one the waste water tank:

Troubleshooting

Water leaking under the vehicle

If water is leaking under the vehicle, this can have several causes:

  • Please check if the levers of both tanks are closed.
  • The cold protection valve may be open. The cold protection valve automatically drains the boiler if there is a risk of frost. If the temperature in the van drops below approx. 7°C, the valve opens automatically. This prevents the drain from freezing. You will find the anti-freeze valve in the lower part of the boot, behind a white cover. Bear in mind that it is somewhat hidden, so you may need a torch to see it clearly:

For the water supply to work and the antifreeze valve to be switched on, the blue lever must be in the position shown in the picture and the blue button must be pressed.

The cold protection (or anti freeze) valve automatically drains the boiler when there is a risk of frost. This prevents the drain from freezing.

The system measures the temperature inside the van. As soon as it is around 3 degrees or lower the system is activated and lets all the water that was in the boiler and the fresh water tank out. To deactivate the system, the room temperature has to be a least 7 degrees, otherwise the blue button will jump out again.

To ensure that the water supply continues to function and the valve is switched on, the blue lever must be turned clockwise and then the blue button must be pressed in.

  • It is also possible that the boiler's valve is open by mistake. You will find it next to the antifreeze valve. There is a transparent knob there. Turn it all the way and watch for water dripping from the underside of the car:
  • And two more valves behind the lever for the grey water tank:

No water flows

If you turn on the tap but no water flows, there may be several reasons for this:

    • First check the level on the on-board unit to see if the fresh water tank is sufficiently filled.
There should be at least 20 liters of water in the fresh water tank so that the pump is completely covered with water and filled so that it automatically unlocks after running dry!
    • Check that the water pump on the on-board unit is switched on.
    • The water pump is not heard when the tap is turned on? Check the fuse of the water pump:(the fuses are located under the rear seat base)

Before any fuse is pulled, following safety measures is required:

  1. Turn off the engine and remove the key from the contact.
  2. Unplug the car from any external power supply.
  3. Pull carefully on the fuse by pulling from the sides.
  4. A damaged fuse can be burnt or have the connector broken (see picture). If so, please replace it. You can find them at petrol stations and hardware stores.
