❄️How do I use snow chains? - Couple Condo (Thor Tellaro 20L/Thor Dazzle 2LB)

Snow chains are recommended when roads are covered with snow or ice, especially in steep or winding areas such as mountain passes. In some countries or regions (e.g. Mountain roads), they may even be mandatory when indicated by designated signs.

However, you should avoid using snow chains when the roads are cleared and dry, as they can damage the tyres and the road itself, and have a negative impact on vehicle control.

We rent out snow chains for the Liberty Lodge, Couple Condo, Road House, Couple Cottage and Camper Castle models at selected locations:

  • US: Los Angeles, Las Vegas, San Francisco, Denver, Seattle, Salt Lake City
  • Canada: Vancouver
  • Germany: Munich, Aachen
  • Sweden: Stockholm, Malmö, Gothenburg
  • Norway: Oslo, Bergen
  • Austria: Innsbruck, Salzburg
  • Spain: Barcelona, Bilbao
  • France: Geneva-Pays de Gex, Lyon, Toulouse, Marseille
  • Italy: Milan, Turin, Venice

If snow chains are available, you can book them as an extra in your initial booking. You can also add them later via your customer account.

Please note that there is an increased risk of damage to the wheels when using snow chains. We therefore recommend the Protection Package Max, which offers protection against tyre damage. With Plus or Basic, you would have to pay for such damage up to the excess amount. This applies regardless of whether the snow chains are your own or rented.

Important!

  • Do not drive faster than aproximately 20-30 mph with snow chains mounted!
  • You will always receive 2 snow chains. Mount them on the front wheels!

Putting on snow chains:

  1. Park the vehicle on a level surface.
Place the snow chains in front of the drive wheels with the smooth side facing up:

  2. Guide the chain under the vehicle in one smooth movement so that the open center section rests against the back of the tire:

  3. Reach around each side of the tire and grasp both ends of the non-split cable. Pull both ends to the top of the tire so the fasteners can be seen and manipulated more easily. Connect the inside fastener:

  4. Grasp the outside cable with both hands and pull it toward you to create as much slack as possible. Connect the top fastener:

  5. Connect the bottom fastener. In order to close the outside fasteners, the opposing ends must be at an angle of approximately 30° to each other:

  6. Attach the rubber tensioner to take up the additional slack. Attach the first hook at the “6 o’clock” position, the next at the “12 o’clock” position and so forth. The open side of the hooks must face away from the tire:

Remove snow chains:

Remove the rubber tensioner from the side cable. Unhook the outside and inside fasteners. Lay the chain on the ground and drive off of it. Clean it and dry it off and spray with an all-purpose lubricant. Roll chains together and place back in package.
