💧 Fresh water and waste water / grey water - Couple Cottage (Bürstner Lineo/Signeo)

Fresh water

The fresh water tank (100 L) is located on the passenger side and serves the washbasin, toilet and shower. To open it you need the medium sized key:

The fresh water tank can be filled using a jerry can with an attachment or a hose. Please make sure that the fresh water and waste water tanks are closed. They may still be open from the previous rental.

You can check the level of the water tank on the camper unit (the button in the middle right shows the fresh water level, the one below shows the waste water level):

To empty=open or close the fresh water tank, you have to fold away the mattress at the head end and open the wooden flap. You will then see the tank more towards the rear.

  • To open, turn the knob anticlockwise past the resistance until it stops to drain the water completely.
  • To close, turn the knob clockwise as far as it will go.
  • To reduce the water level to 20 litres for the journey: Turn the knob anticlockwise until you feel resistance. Then the water drains down to 20 L.

Caution: Fresh water is not drinking water!

Waste water

Before returning the Couple Cottage, the waste water must be emptied.

You can check the level of the water tank at the camper unit (see picture above).

The waste water tank (75L) of the Couple Cottage is located under the camper on the driver's side - almost at the very back. To empty it, take the grey handle from the driver's door and use it to turn the long metal rod that opens the waste water tank:

Troubleshooting

Water leaks under the car

If water leaks under the car even though everything is closed, it may be that a valve is still open:

  • Make sure that the fresh water tank drain is closed.
  • Make sure that the drain of the waste water tank is closed.
  • Check that the cold protection valve is closed. It is located behind a grille under the rear seat and is marked with a snowflake:
    IMG_20230330_110933.jpg

The cold protection (or anti freeze) valve automatically drains the boiler when there is a risk of frost. This prevents the drain from freezing.

The system measures the temperature inside the van. As soon as it is around 3 degrees or lower the system is activated and lets all the water that was in the boiler and the fresh water tank out. To deactivate the system, the room temperature has to be a least 7 degrees, otherwise the blue button will jump out again.

To ensure that the water supply continues to function and the valve is switched on, the blue lever must be turned clockwise and then the blue button must be pressed in.

  • Also check at this point whether the boiler valve is open by mistake. If it is up, it is open:

In this case, press it down to close it.

No water flowing

If you turn on the tap but no water flows, this can have several reasons:

  • Make sure that the camper unit (control unit by the sliding door) is switched on.
  • Check the level of fresh water in the camper unit.

There should be at least 20 liters of water in the fresh water tank so that the pump is completely covered with water and filled so that it automatically unlocks after running dry!

  • The fuse of the water pump may be damaged. You will find the fuses under the mattress at the foot end, under a wooden cover:
The fuse for the water pump (orange, 5A) is located on the very outside in position 16 and is labelled "Pumpe".

Before any fuse is pulled, following safety measures is required:

  1. Turn off the engine and remove the key from the contact.
  2. Unplug the car from any external power supply.
  3. Pull carefully on the fuse by pulling from the sides.
  4. A damaged fuse can be burnt or have the connector broken (see picture). If so, please replace it. You can find them at petrol stations and hardware stores.

Water pump does not stop running

If you hear the water pump humming even though no tap is open, check the following:

  • Are all the taps closed properly? Sometimes they are still a little open and this causes the pump to run even if no water comes out.
  • It may be that a micro-sensor on the tap has become wet and therefore does not recognise that the pump should stop working. Wait until it is dry or try drying the area with a hair dryer.
  • Switch off the camper unit for a while until the system resets itself.

Only one of two water taps is working?

If the water pump does not activate when you turn on the tap, the micro-switch on the tap lever is probably defective.

To still put the water pump in the ready state, follow these steps:

  1. Test the other tap (e.g. kitchen or bathroom).
  2. If another tap works, open it just a little so that you can hear the water pump, but no water flows.
  3. Now open the tap with the defective micro switch. The water should now run.

Attention: Don't forget to close both taps completely afterwards!
