๐Ÿ”Œ Charging the camping battery / Electricity - Family Finca (Knaus Boxdrive 600 XL)

You can charge the camping battery while driving or connect the van to an external power source. To do this, you must connect the supplied cable (20 metres long) from the plug on the driver's side of the camper to a power source. Please note that campers cannot be charged at the stations for electric vehicles.

The vehicle indicates that the battery is charging by turning on an indicator light on the board display. The 230V sockets should now be working.

Please note the following:

  • Do not forget to unplug the power cable before driving off! To do this, push down the blue lever to the left of the plug.
  • With a fully charged battery you will be self-sufficient for about 2 days without external electricity. Then you have to drive again for some time to recharge the battery or connect your camper to an external power source.

You can check the charge level in the on-board unit:

To check the battery status, press the "Check" button. The lights light up and indicate the fill level of the tanks and the battery. The camping battery is the symbol on the far right, with the back of the camper + battery.

Troubleshooting

Always check first whether the on-board computer is switched on (green light illuminated).

If the camping battery does not charge or there is no power on the 230V sockets despite an external power source, please check in the left cupboard under the bed:

  • Whether the RCD switches are pointing upwards:

  • It has to be in the vertical position for the 12V power to be switched on (A):

If the red part is taken off, there cannot be any power! Never remove the red key!
  • Whether the main battery switch is switched on:Hauptschalter.jpg
  • Whether the charge booster is switched on. The small button at the bottom right must be pressed in and light up green when connected to the external power source, otherwise the camping battery will not charge:

  • If everything is OK, check if the cable or socket at the other end (which is plugged in at the campsite) is faulty. Maybe a nice fellow camper will let you check with his cable and working socket?๐Ÿ˜

For deeply discharged camping batteries

As camping batteries are not lithium batteries, we advise you never to discharge them below 30%. This can damage the battery. If you suspect that the camping battery is deeply discharged, try the following:

  • Connect shore power and run the engine.
  • Try this for about 30 minutes. The extra amperage can bring a deeply discharged battery back up to speed.
