You can see the fill levels of the fresh water and waste water tanks in the on-board unit by pressing and holding the button labeled "Fresh" or "Gray":
Fresh water
You have the option of using the water in the Family Freedom via a direct water connection. This bypasses the water tank and uses the water directly from the tap.
To do this, open the connection on the driver's side and connect it to the water connection on the water station using a hose. Then open the water tap on the water station. Remember to close the tap and remove the hose before continuing your journey.
The fresh water tank (40 gallons/ 151 L) is located on the driver's side or passenger side and serves the sink, washbasin, toilet and shower.
The fresh water tank can be filled using a hose. Please make sure that the fresh water and waste water tanks are closed. They may still be open from the previous rental. To open, unscrew the white cap:
Fresh water tank driver side:
To empty the fresh water tank, turn on the water pump, open one or more water taps and let the water run into the gray water tank. Just make sure the grey water tank does not overflow, as it is way smaller than the fresh water tank, because some water is used up and some goes to the toilet cassette when flushing. Close the taps and turn off the water pump as soon as the water has run empty to prevent damage on the pump.
Fresh water tank passenger side:
To empty the fresh water tank, open the marked drawer below the kitchen. There you will find a blue valve (closed in the picture). Turn it a quarter turn counterclockwise:
Caution: Fresh water is not drinking water!
Please pay attention to the permissible carrying weight. Make sure to empty the water tank if the weight in the camper (including equipment and travelers) exceeds the permissible load weight.
Waste water
The waste water tank is located at the rear under the camper on the driver's side.
You can empty out both black water and gray water right after one another trough the same outlet. Please empty black water first and then rinse with the gray water.
- Open the flap on the outside of the driver's side with one of the keys:
- Detach the black cover from the pipe and attach the hose for the waste water. We recommend to wear gloves!
- Put the other end of the hose wherever you want the gray and black water to go.
- Now pull the levers.
VERY IMPORTANT: always pull the BLACK lever first. That will release black water (everything from the toilet). More info about the toilet ad black water can be found here.
After that tank has drained, close the black lever and pull the GRAY lever next. That way the gray water will already help flush out the hose. - Next – and this step is optional – you can take the dump station hose (if they have one, DO NOT use the provided freshwater hose for this) and put it into the SAN-T Flush opening above the tanks to flush out any remainders left in the tank.
- Once you are done flushing you will want to make sure both the black and the gray lever are closed again and then unscrew the hose and put it back into the compartment. Make sure you close the compartment (we’ve had multiple hoses lost on highways 😉).
