❄️ Winter camping - Couple Condo (Thor Tellaro 20L/Thor Dazzle 2LB)

You might be driving to areas of the country where the weather is colder or freezing. Water pipes and holding tanks can get severely damaged if they freeze. If you are ever in a state where temperatures drop to the point where water freezes, please make sure you turn on the tank heaters. And never leave the Van for an extended amount of time with no electricity or heating as the pipes will freeze and burst causing major water damage.

  • To turn on the tank heaters simply go to the main panel inside the van and press the waterdrop symbol.
  • Then the symbol that says TANK HEATER:
  • The symbol should illuminate orange when turned ON.
  • Leave the tank heaters running if you are in severe weather and make sure the van does not completely run out of battery as the heating pads will not work without electricity.

Is my camper winterized?

  • If you are picking up from Vancouver, Salt Lake City, Calgary or Denver, your vehicle has been winterized.
  • If you are picking up from Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Las Vegas, Miami or Phoenix, your vehicle is not winterized.

How to handle a winterized vehicle?

The vehicle has been winterized. This means that anything using water is not currently usable due to temperature. Temperatures below 32° F/0°C for longer than 1 hour will cause pipes to freeze and crack resulting in damage to vehicle not covered by any of our insurance packages. If your adventure requires the use of water, please follow the below process to dewinterize vehicle:

  1. The low point drain is already closed. No action needed.
  2. Cabin battery must be at full charge and propane should be full.
  3. Fill with water and turn on cabin and water heaters.
  4. Turn on faucet(s). Air is in the line, and will take a few minutes to blow through.

In the event that this vehicle is going on an adventure that temperatures fall below 32° F/0°C for longer than 1 hour, and has water in it, precautions must be taken. Failure to do so will cause the lines to freeze resulting in damage to the vehicle not covered by any of our insurance packages. Damage costs potentially $1500.00+ USD.

  • Cabin heater must be running at all time (~50 °F/10°C are sufficient).
  • Switch on tank heater (if applicable).
  • In the event that black and gray water freeze, hot water will need to be poured down drain and toilet before dumping. How do you know? The tank release handle will not move and/or the shower will not drain and overflow.
  • Battery life of the cabin battery is limited in freezing temperature. If you are planning on leaving your vehicle unattended for several hours, the generator must be running (if applicable) or vehicle is hooked up to ground power.

Important!

  • -10°F/-23°C is the absolute extreme for any of our vehicles
  • Do not use city water connections in freezing temperatures
  • If needed, use winter specific windshield wiper fluid
  • Tire PSI will change with climate, no action needed within range
  • Snow chains available at extra cost
