Here is how to get ready to cook in the Family Finca (VW Grand California):
- Open the gas cylinder (11 kg) in the right-hand compartment of the trunk. Turn the brass-colored knob on the gas bottle to + or - to turn it on or off:
- Make sure that the gray line on the marked black rotary box points in the direction of the open gas cylinder:
Press and hold the black button next to the golden valve for a few seconds:
Here is a video in which everything is explained step by step:- Open the lever in the kitchen.
The lever is on the right side of the kitchen behind a flap. The lever on the right is for cooking and the lever on the left is for the heating and hot water. The levers are open when they are in a vertical position. There is a sign inside the compartment showing the open and closed position. - Open both glass covers, as the heat from cooking could cause the cover on the sink to shatter:
- To ignite the gas hob, turn the desired gas knob, press it down while simultaneously igniting with the small black switch:
Lighting the gas stove can sometimes take several attempts and/or seconds.
This is because when the gas pipe is empty, it must first fill up completely before propane gas can escape from the stove.
It is quite normal to smell a slight odor of propane gas before the stove ignites.
Attention
After cooking and especially when driving, be sure to close the shut-off taps and the gas bottle!
Please also note that, for safety reasons, the gas compartment must not be used as a storage space.
Troubleshooting
If the gas flow is interrupted, you can check it as follows:
Check the gas bottles in the trunk. They should look like this:
- If the two points (1) are no longer green but red, there is no gas in the system. They may be red because the gas bottle is not open (2). Turn the brass knob on the gas bottle all the way open so the gas can flow. If the bottle is open but no gas flows, it may be empty.
- If one gas bottle is empty, the black rotary knob with the gray marking can be turned 180 degrees to draw gas from the other gas bottle. It should turn green again as soon as gas is drawn from the other, full bottle.
- The two points will also turn red if the pipe safety device has been activated.
- Press the black button (3) on the pipe right next to the bottle. You will hear a metallic click as soon as the button is properly engaged:
- If the yellow button is sticking out (4), no gas is flowing. The yellow button pops out if there is a strong jolt while driving.
- To press the yellow button back in, press it and hold it for about 10 seconds.
- Make sure that the gray shut-off valve in the kitchen is open (vertical).
If you still do not hear the click despite working power, the electric igniter may be defective. In this case, you can carefully ignite the gas at the stove ring with a lighter.
