💧 Fresh water and waste water / grey water - Surfer Suite (VW T6.1 California Ocean)

The Surfer Suite has a water system that provides running water to the outdoor shower and the kitchen sink.

Fresh water

Fill the water tank (30L) from the outside with the help of a garden hose or the water container with nozzle provided. Use the middle sized key to open the tank lid. The opening is next to the power connection, on the driver´s side at the back of the car, marked with the words "Water".

Make sure the water tank drain is closed as it might have been left open from the previous rental.

You can check the water level on the camping display above the rear view mirror. The tank pictured in the back is the fresh water tank. When the symbol is full, it means that the fresh water tank is full.

To empty the fresh water tank, open the cupboard on the back, where the gas bottle and the shower head are stored. Lift the container of the shower. On the corner of the tank, you will see a red lever. Turn it to let the water out.

Attention: the fresh water is not drinking water.

Waste water

The camping unit will show you when the waste water tank is full. The tank symbol will appear filled and yellow, marked with a warning sign.

To open and empty the waste water tank, open the left kitchen cupboard and, on the the back corner, you will find the lever to empty the gray water tank (30L). The water will fall under the car, in front of the left rear wheel.

Troubleshooting

Water coming out under the car

If there is water running under the car, check that all the tank levers are closed. The lever to empty the waste water tank is placed inside the left kitchen cabinet; the one for the fresh water is next to the gas bottle. See the instructions at the top of this article for pictures.

The outdoor shower drips at the connection if the hose is not connected:

  1. Check whether the water pump switch of the outdoor shower has been accidentally activated.
  2. For the gold-colored connections of the outdoor shower, check whether the hose coupling is really closed after disconnecting the hose:

Open (you can see the small holes):

Closed (no holes visible):

If the hose coupling is open, push the golden ring backwards (as if you were detaching the shower hose from the coupling) and the coupling should close again. You can also carefully insert a key or a pen in the hole and wiggle a bit to loosen the rings.

No water is flowing

If no water comes out of the shower or the kitchen in the Surfer Suite, check:

  • Whether the fresh water tank is sufficiently full.
There should be at least 20 liters of water in the fresh water tank so that the pump is completely covered with water and filled so that it automatically unlocks after running dry!
  • Turn on the shower and the tap in the kitchen at the same time. This will release the air trapped in the pipes.
  • Whether the water pump can be heard when the tap is activated.
  • Check the water tank to see if a hose has come loose. The tank is located in the cupboard closest to the kitchen under a plastic cover. Simply pull it off to reveal the tank.
    1. Open the large white lid. If the lid is too tight, try letting some water out of the tank and some air in through the outside of the water tank, or use pump pliers.
    2. There you will find the sensor (long metal rod), which you have to remove (disconnect the cable). Check that the pump is under water and that all hoses are connected.
    3. If a hose has come loose, try to reconnect it to the connection. The connection is located on the right-hand side of the inside of the water tank (towards the kitchen).
    4. Reassemble everything as it was before.

If the water pump cannot be heard and / or the message “Error: Fresh water pump. Please visit workshop” appears on your board computer, proceed as follows:

  1. Press and hold the round button on the board computer for a few seconds to acknowledge the error.
  2. Check the fuse under the driver's seat:

Before any fuse is pulled, following safety measures is required:

  1. Turn off the engine and remove the key from the contact.
  2. Unplug the car from any external power supply.
  3. Pull carefully on the fuse by pulling from the sides.
  4. A damaged fuse can be burnt or have the connector broken (see picture). If so, please replace it. You can find them at petrol stations and hardware stores.

To remove the fuses easily, use fuse pliers. You will find a set of pliers on the compartment below the light switch, between the steering wheel and the driver's door. Pull from it carefully and take the pliers:

There, you will find several fuses in different colours. You are looking for the 5A fuse. There are several ones with that voltage, so please only remove the ones marked in this picture:

Pull it out carefully and check if it is burnt or have some damage. If not, please place it back in the same direction and position as it was before. We recommend to take a picture before you take it out.
