🍴 Propane Gas / Cooking / Stove

Here you can find out how to cook in the Van Villa:

  1. The gas bottle (2.75 kg) in the Van Villa is located in the external compartment next to the garage on the passenger side. It only supplies the gas stove. Turn the brass knob on top of the bottle towards “+”.
  2. In the drawer under the sink, open the gray safety lever (horizontal is open):
  3. Open both glass covers, as the heat when cooking could cause the sink cover to shatter.
Press and turn the desired gas knob. You should then hear the clicking of the electric igniter:
  4. Hold the knob down for a few seconds (otherwise the flame may go out).
  5. Turn the dial to regulate the flame.

Lighting the gas stove can sometimes take several attempts and/or seconds.
This is because when the gas pipe is empty, it must first fill up completely before propane gas can escape from the stove.
It is quite normal to smell a slight odor of propane gas before the stove ignites.

Attention

After cooking and especially while driving, always make sure to close the shut-off valves and the gas bottle!

Please also note that for safety reasons, the gas compartment must not be used as storage space.

Troubleshooting

No gas?

You should be able to hear a slight hiss of the gas flow and also smell the gas. If not, check the gas flow again from start to finish:

  1. Is the gas bottle full? Lift it or weigh it: a completely full bottle weighs about 6.4kg, an empty bottle about 3.7kg.
  2. Is the gas bottle open? Turn it at least 2 turns towards "+".
  3. Is the grey safety lever in the kitchen open? It must be in the direction of the gas line to be open. Usually, there is a sticker showing which position is open.
Stove not igniting?
You should clearly hear the click of the electric igniter. If not, check if you have switched on the 12V circuit and if the battery is sufficiently charged.
If you still don't hear the click despite working power, the electric igniter may be defective. In this case, you can carefully ignite the gas at the stove ring with a lighter.
Stove won't stay on?
Press the gas knob while turning it – you should now hear the gas flowing. Ignite now. Keep the gas knob pressed for a few more seconds after igniting the gas. This will give you a stable flame.
