When the engine oil indicator light comes on, indicating that the oil level is too high, this can have two causes very easy to check:
- In most cases, the warning comes up when the oil tube expands. When this happens, the sensor moves and provides a wrong warning; it does not mean that the oil level is high. This happens when the vehicle has been heated by the sun or when you have been driving for a long time. Wait for 10-15 minutes, ideally on a place with a bit of shade, and then keep on driving
- There is indeed a bit too much oil in the tube.
To check the oil level:
-
With the engine at operating temperature, park the vehicle on a leveled surface
-
Switch off the engine and wait for about 5 minutes
-
Open the bonnet to reach the engine compartment
-
Pull the dipstick (yellow ring) out of the guide tube and wipe it off with a clean cloth
-
Re-insert the oil dipstick into the guide tube as far as it will go
A or above: Engine oil level too high
B :Engine oil level within normal range
C :Engine oil level is too low; please refill with the suitable oil 0W30.
If there is too much oil on the tube, please go to the nearest workshop to get some oil pumped out.
